This
is the tour for those who have a limited time on Santorini and
want to see all the major attractions of this beautiful
Cycladic island.
In
one day we take you to the most interesting places on the
island. Departure at 09.30 am. from Fira town, on to
the
Minoan Excavations
of Akrotiri, the
prehistoric site which played an important role in
Aegean affairs during the third and second millennia B.C.
One of the greatest and most cosmopolitan
harbors of the
Mediterranean during the first half of the second millennium, Akrotiri was buried under a thick mantle of ash when the
volcano erupted in about 1.600 BC.
From Akrotiri you'll proceed to the port where you'll embark
for a boat trip to the volcano. With a 1.5 hour stop there is
enough time to walk to the crater and observe the smoke with
traces of sulphur that is emitted from a number
of
spots. Elsewhere you'll find that the ground and stones are
too hot to touch.
Leaving the volcano behind, the boat now heads for
Hot Springs - a place for swimming
followed by the nearby
island Thirasia. During the trip you shall be able to see the
two separate islands which make up the volcano. The first one
is New Kameni and behind it, the long and narrow,
Old
Kameni. Thirasia is the second largest island of the group
which forms the caldera and your stop here will be long enough
for some lunch and a little more swimming.
The boat tour ends up at
the
village of
Oia
where
you'll
stay
and admire the sunset, one of the most spectacular sights in
the Cyclades.
After the sunset you'll return to Fira Town. |
