Guided Walking Tours of Sifnos
Come
and see a different side of Sifnos.
If you're tired of overcrowded and noisy tourist places, if you'd
like to have some exercise during your holiday, or if you just enjoy
walking, then Sifnos has something special to offer you.
Walking
along picturesque footpaths, ascending towards some of the islands
finest monasteries, you'll have the opportunity to admire the
spectacular scenery, walk past some of the islands famous ancient
towers, agricultural cottages, small caves and miles of dry stone
walls. During the week you have a choice of 4 walks to choose from.

This
walk sets off from Ag.
Marina tou Kade, a small church which is on the
road to Vathi. From here you'll make your way towards
“Ag. Ioannis Mavro Chorio” a monastery on the west side
of the island and a settlement of scattered agricultural
cottages.
After a rest and a coffee at the monastery we continue our
walk towards the bay of Vathi.
The name “Mavro Chorio” means “Black Village”
maybe because of a fire during ancient times.

This walk
takes you up to the hospitable monastery of “Prophet
Elias”, the oldest and highest monastery on the island situated
at 695 meters above sea level.
It'll be very interesting to see the secret rooms and
catacombs, be amazed to be on the roof of Sifnos with all the
island and the surrounding ones lying at your feet. A truly
breathtaking view.
The excursion starts from Firogia, a
monastery often used for exhibitions, again on the road to
Vathi. |

We start
walking from “Ag. Minas”, a small village on the road to Herronisos.
The destination for this walk is “Ag. Sostis”, a monastery
a few meters above the sea
on the north-eastern coast of Sifnos, where the ancient gold mines
used to be.
You'll see the beautiful marble footpath leading up to the church,
which dates
back to at least the time of mines as well as what is left of the
mines themselves.

Our walk starts from the main square of Artemonas, heading
down the road to Poulati, a beautifully "wild" location
on the east coast of the island with "killers rock" jutting
out of the sea.
We then continue walking to Kastro, taking in the
peripheral path of the medieval capital of Sifnos.
Our walk then takes us on the the footpaths, alongside dry
stone walls and farmhouses to the fishing village of Faros. |

This
walk sets off from Platy Yialos, heading in a southern direction to
the small bay of Fikiada, keeping the sea to our left at all times.

Georgios tou Kontou. After a short break we set off again making our
way up towards Vathi.
Our walk ends at a traditional pottery workshop in Vathi.
