ART SCHOOL OF THE AEGEAN

SAMOS GREECE

The Art School of the Aegean, now entering its 11th  year, is a unique summer PROGRAM offering an artistically enriching experience overseas.  Situated in an idyllic island setting, the school is located in a small Greek village on the shore of the Aegean Sea.  The School provides weeks of creative interaction with students and practicing artists from the United States and Europe amid the rich culture of village life on Samos, one of the most verdant of the Aegean islands.

The Program is designed for a diverse group of individuals, of different ages and backgrounds, who would like to advance their creative interests while exploring a Greek island as a source of inspiration.   The island is a key resource where students will find such subjects as Byzantine monasteries, old rustic villages, Greek and Roman ruins, as well as the extraordinary holdings of the Samos museum renowned for antiquities from the island's own temple of Hera (ca 550 BC).

In addition to developing artistic abilities, students will establish an appreciation for the cultural heritage and environment of Greece. Susan Trovas, Director of the Art School of the Aegean, and her husband Dimitris Trovas started the school in 1991 to provide a place where individuals can focus on their work and be renewed by exploring new terrain and the richness of Greece without the distractions faced by artists today.   The village setting and simplicity of living offers a welcome alternative to our more complex lifestyle.

Susan says, "our commitment is to attract individuals whose creative talents will be enhanced by this unique experience and whose interest in our program will help us sustain a vital, artistic initiative in Greece."

In addition to being a painter herself,  Susan also worked thirteen years at the Museum of Modern Art as Manager of the Membership Department.  She is currently working for the Vice President of Academic Affairs at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Florida.  You can contact Susan by filling out this form.
