IKIES TRADITIONAL HOUSES

Ikies is a complex of ten luxurious self-catering traditional houses and studios perched on the edge of the caldera on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Oia in the northern part of the island of Santorini.

Architecturally inspired by the age-old traditional local houses which are carved out of pumice into the cliffs of the caldera, they are designed to make the visitor feel at home. The ten houses of Ikies, each built on a separate level, cascade down the caldera cliff reaching the pool level at the bottom of the complex. Each apartment's private balcony, affords spectacular views over the caldera towards the volcanic islets and towards Oia itself. The balconies are furnished with exterior use reclining futons, chaises longues, director's chairs, and marble-topped tables from where our guests can sip relaxing long drinks under their umbrellas while taking in the view of the sunset. The houses offer romantic privacy and are the ideal place to unwind. Each house is furnished in the simple Cycladic style and the decor respects local aesthetics, tradition and colour.

The houses at Ikies combine traditional architectural features such as vaulted ceilings, painted concrete floors, traditional doors and windows with modern comforts such as air-conditioning, satellite TV, internet access and fully equipped kitchenettes. Each of our houses is named after a profession associated with Santorini and decorated with furnishings, objects and artwork relating to the respective profession.

There are five types of houses:

  • Studios: The two studios have a kitchenette and one main bedroom with a queen-size bed. Ikies studios can accommodate two persons each.
  • Superior Studio: This spacious house has a queen-size bed in the rear of the room and two sofas in the living area, thus accommodation up to four persons is possible. The kitchen has a bar around it separating it from the living area and the bathroom is large with a vaulted ceiling. A private outdoor hot tub is nestled in the corner of the private terrace with views to the village of Oia and the caldera.
  • Maisonettes: Each of the three maisonettes is developed on two-levels. The queen-size bed in the loft offers a spectacular view onto the caldera through the loft window while the traditional sofas on the ground floor living room can be used as single beds. Ikies maisonettes can accommodate up to four persons each.
  • Suite: This truly traditional house has a separate bedroom from the living area with a French window opening out onto the spacious terrace. The living area has two traditional sofas which can be used as single beds and thus comfortably accommodate a family of four in the house. The private terrace offers uninterrupted views to the caldera and the village of Oia.
  • Superior Suites: Each of the three superior suites is comprised of two separate rooms, the bedroom with its king-size bed and the living room in which the traditional sofas can comfortably be used as single-beds. The superior suites can accommodate up to four guests and one of them up to six guests as it has two separate bedrooms and two bathrooms. These houses have a private outdoor hot tub with a wooden deck area nestled in the corner of their private terrace.

The beauty of the surroundings at Ikies is only surpassed by the heartfelt hospitality and high level of service. On arrival, the staff will provide luggage service from the adjacent parking facility. Continental breakfast is served to each house's private terrace while guests can enjoy relaxing drinks or long iced-coffees from the bar throughout the day but especially during the world-famous Oia sunset with its dramatic colours.
