Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What's included in the price of the trip?
Our goal is to simplify your traveling experience, which means including the majority of the costs directly in the price of the trip.  The following traveling expenses are prepaid, and will be taken care of by your guide:

  • The best hotel accommodations in the area, based on double (or twin) occupancy.

  •  All breakfasts, and formally planned lunches and dinners.

  •  The services of the touring van.

  •  En route snacks and beverages.

  •  The services of your guide who ensures that your whole     trip runs smoothly from beginning to end.

  •  Entrance fees to all archaeological sites and museums.

  •  Maps and route details.

  •  Detailed local and historical information to enhance your enjoyment of your walk.

  •  All transportation from meeting point at the beginning of the trip to the drop-off at the end, including van transportation, trains, ferries, hydrofoils, hovercraft, etc.

  •  Transportation of your luggage throughout the duration of your trip.

  •  Tours of local places of interest, talks by local experts, informal lessons in language and dancing, food and drink tastings.

  •  Gratuities at hotels (for baggage, porters, service).

2. I do not consider myself an extremely athletic person.  Are these trips appropriate for me?
We want these experiences to be available to people of all ages and athletic ability, so we have taken the time to design trips that would be perfect for travelers of all types.  Level 1 trips will suit those who are less athletic, and level 2 trips are a bit more challenging; both could be comfortably completed by even a casual walker.  For the more athletic, there are extra walks or more difficult options available on all trips, most days.

3. What if I get tired half way through a walk?
Our touring van is available for this reason exactly.  Manned by one of your guides throughout the duration of each walk, the van is supplied with snacks and drinks to rejuvenate you en route and to pick you up when you’ve had enough.

4. I have no knowledge of Greece at all, will I have trouble getting around?
Your guides accompany you throughout the trip to help you with details such as this.  They are fluent in both English and Greek, as well as familiar with the Greek customs that the average traveler may not be privy to.  You can depend on your guide not only for translation purposes, but also to interpret menus and make suggestions according to your preferences, and making sure you get to try all the local delicacies.

5. Who are my guides?
Your guides have been hired based on their familiarity with both Greece and North America, and their interest in making your travelling experience as comfortable and exciting as possible.  They are extremely knowledgeable about the areas that will be visited throughout your trip, and they are anxious to help make your experience a memorable one.

6. What can I expect upon booking a trip with Experience Greece?
We want you to be prepared for everything, so part of our success formula is based on providing all the key information you may require.  Upon booking, you will receive in-depth information regarding your itinerary, as well as information regarding what to pack, reading suggestions, and how to prepare for your trip. Throughout your trip you will receive information about local hot spots, eateries, and things to see and do, to help you get the most out of your trip.  You can also expect informative pamphlets before your walks that keep you informed along your journey about the things you are seeing and experiencing.

7. What climate can I expect at different times of the year?

The dates of our trips are chosen with the weather in mind, so that you can enjoy the best of the sun and the heat, but still be able to walk comfortably.  In early summer till the end of June, the weather in the areas we visit is dry and temperatures average in the low 30s, with about 10 hours a day of sunshine.  The climate is roughly the same during September, with greater variability in general.   Details about the average monthly temperatures will be provided in your pre-trip materials.

8. I don't want to spend my vacation adhering to a strict schedule.  I want to be able to create my own travel experience based on my preferences.  Can I do that at Experience Greece?

Absolutely.  Our holidays were designed to take the hassle out of independent travel, while still providing a lot of scope for the interests and wishes of the independent-minded traveler.  You can walk at your own pace, on your own if you like, take advantage of plenty of leisure time, seek out your guides for suggestions on what to do and for help arranging it.  This is your holiday.

9. How many other travelers can I expect to share my experience with?

No more than 12.  We can't provide high quality and individualized service to more.

10. I will be traveling with children, are they welcome at Experience Greece?

Sure.  However, because of the nature of the trips, we don't recommend our trips for children under 16.

11. I have avoided organized trips because of the fine print - what hidden costs can I expect on my travels?

You'll find that most of your expenses are taken care of on our trips.  On our trips, you can expect to have about 3 or 4 meals on your own (including a couple of lunches).   Tipping of the guides is at your discretion, and all other tipping is included in the trip price.  Meals include table wine, but should you choose to splurge on a fine wine, that's up to you.  Of course, air travel is not included in the price of the trip.

12. The itineraries listed interest me, but I don't want to limit myself to only one area in Greece.  What are my options?

Each of our trips covers a nice range of what's available in Greece, and includes at least one of the enchanting islands or coastal areas.  If you want to see more before or after your trip with us, we'd be happy to make some recommendations and the necessary arrangements for you.

13. I will be visiting Greece for three weeks - these trips only run for less than two weeks.  What about the rest of my trip?

We'd be happy to help you make any pre- or post-trip hotel or other arrangements for you.  Our representatives have traveled widely in Greece and are very knowledgeable about it, and can make recommendations especially suited to you and your interests.
