Apokreas: Carnival Season in Greece

In 2025 Apokries is from Sunday February 9th to Sunday March 2nd
Tsiknopempti (Burnt Thursday) is Feb 20th
Clean Monday ('Kathara Deftera' or 'Kathari Deftera') is on Monday March 3rd

Apokreas TavernaApokreas (pronounced ah-PO-kree-ahs) is one of my favorite times to be in Greece. It is certainly one of the most colorful and festive times to be in Greece but it also is the holiday that lets you know that the winter will soon be over and spring is on its way. Though it is not a time when many tourists are in Greece, it is certainly a great time to be there and the only problem is returning to your former life once you have returned from 2 weeks of eating, drinking, meeting people and of course, visiting the archaeological sites which are the most beautiful in the winter and early spring. This is the story of my trip in words and pictures. If you enjoy this please share it with your friends on Facebook or whatever social media you are addicted to.
