Rashidi Graffiti is back

Rashidi Graffiti, in AthensFor those of you who were reading my blog way back on the day of Obama's inauguration you may remember our night out with Rashidi Graffiti, the blues piano player who we met at the James Joyce pub. Click here if you need a reminder. Well, Rashidi Graffiti is back and playing at the cafe-restaurant-ouzeri called Poikili Stoa, right behind Agio Philippou Church across from the entrance of the ancient Agora in Monastiraki. If you walk down Hepheston Street from the Monastiraki metro station building and right where the road ends you go a few steps to your left and you will see the place. It is a beautiful outdoor bar with a spectacular view of the Acropolis and the Temple of Hepestos and the prices are quite reasonable. Rashidi is a real entertainer, on a level you don't find very often in Greek bars. He plays straight blues, boogie-woogie, jazz, rock and roll and throws in a bit of Mahler here and there. Go and introduce yourself and he has stories of all the greats he has played with. He and a couple of the guys who work there are toying with the idea of opening a blues bar somewhere in downtown Athens so go by and lend your support. He will be playing at Poikili Stoa through August 10th so hurry.
