To the Greeks in the sixties the Kennedy brothers symbolized all that was good about America. We were in Athens when JFK was shot and the Athenians seemed to take it as hard as we did and the whole city was in mourning. For most of the century America had been the symbol of hope. The murder of JFK and RFK made everything seem kind of hopeless. Since then the Greeks have had few illusions about the 'goodness' of the American government and their opinions about US presidents after JFK have gone from indifference to extreme dislike.
