Aurelia is a student of the classics, a Philhellene, and a 1974 graduate of Duquesne University. She lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is a writer of articles on Greece and Greek subjects.

For the last fifteen years she has lived in London during the summer months and during recent summers she lived also in Athens and Mykonos.

Her novel is a result of her experiences living abroad. She is married to Dr. John W. Smeltz, retired from the English faculty at Duquesne University. This is her first novel. Aurelia calls A Lone Red Apple "My love song to Sappho and valentine to Greece."

Aurelia dedicates A Lone Red Apple on the one hand....to Sappho, 'my inspiration. Long, long ago she said: "My words shall live forever", and on the other hand...to husband Jack, 'my guide and companion in a delightful journey through literature and life'.
