Explore the traditional villages and archaeological sites of Epirus

Trip Highlights:

Day by Day itinerary:

Day 1: Nikopolis, Parga

Arrive in Preveza Airport. Take a car and visit the archaeological site of Nikopolis. Then, drive to Acheron River and visit Nekromanteio also called the Gates of Hades, where the ancient Greeks contacted the underworld. Continue to Parga, a small and beautiful town by the Ionian Sea. O/N in Parga

Day 2: Dodoni, Ioannina

Drive to ancient Dodoni and visit the archaeological site. Continue to Ioannina and visit the Castro. Enjoy walking through Ali Pascha’s palace and savour a beautiful view of Ioannina and the surrounding mountains. In the evening dinner in one of the restaurants by the lakeside and enjoy the serene landscape of the lake at night. O/N in Ioannina

Day 3: Konitsa, Burazani

Drive to Konitsa. On the way visit Kleidonia’s stone bridge over the Voidomatis river and enjoy a walk to Voidomatis Gorge (1,5 hrs total). Next visit Molivdoskepasti Monastery. In the evening arrive in Konitsa. O/N Konitsa

Day 4: Zagori

Drive to Monodendri village, one of the most beautiful villages in Zagori. On the way we will make short stops to a number of traditional villages (Aristi, Pedina, Vitsa). Evening walk to Agia Paraskevi, a beautiful monastery built in 1412 AC over the Vikos Canyon. O/N in Monodendri

Day 5: Metsovo

Drive to Kipi village with short stops to many beautiful stone bridges, small chapels or other villages. Continue driving through the forests of east Zagori to Metsovo, a traditional shepherd’s village. Metsovo is famous for its smoked cheese; the grilled meat is a delight too! O/N in hotel

Day 6: Tzoumerka

Drive to the gorgeous Tzoumerka Mountains, and visit two of the most beautiful villages in that area, Sirrako and Kalarrites. Next visit Kipina monastery situated over a canyon. The monastery was built in 1212 AC. Drive to Kedros village for O/N.

Day 7: Arta

Drive to Amvrakikos Gulf, a system of wetlands, rich in birds and flora. You’ll visit Rodia wetland using boats and see some of the traditional fishing techniques. Transfer to the airport or bus station and departure.
