Where to Stay in Athens

When making your choice from the many hotels in Athens, it's worth noting that the desirable areas to stay in are the Plaka [Hotels in/near Plaka], Makrianni, Koukaki, Thission, Syntagma [Athens centre Hotels] and Monastiraki. If you have an early ferry to catch it can be advisable to stay nearer Piraeus port, which is 20 minute metro ride for the city centre or a 30 drive depending on traffic.

With a few days to spend in Athens, the areas of Glyfada and Vouliagmeni on Athens coast is a popular alternative to staying in Athens or Piraeus especially since the airport has been relocated and you no longer have planes flying low overhead every 10 minutes! [Athens coast Hotels ].

The fashionable area of Glyfada has been described as the Athenian Riviera, with its sandy beach, elegant shops, tavernas and bars. Just a 30 minute drive from the city centre so the sights of Athens are reasonably close.
