Walking along picturesque footpaths, ascending towards some of the islands finest monasteries, you'll have the opportunity to admire the spectacular scenery, walk past some of the islands famous ancient towers, agricultural cottages, small caves and miles of dry stone walls. During the week you have a choice of 7 walks to choose from.


No 1: Trekking to Profitis Elias, alt. 695 m
On the way to Prophet Elias Monastery

Pick up from the hotel and departure to Fyrogia monastery. The excursion starts from Fyrogia, a monastery often used for art exhibitions, located on the road to Vathi. From there we walk up the winding mountain footpath to the hospitable monastery of Prophet Elias, the oldest and highest monastery on the island situated at 695 meters above sea level. You will see the very interesting secret rooms and catacombs, and you’ll be amazed to be on the roof of Sifnos with all the island and the surrounding ones lying at your feet. A truly breathtaking view. Return to Fyrogia monastery by following the same path on the way back. Departure from Fyrogia monastery and return to the hotel. End of the tour.

No 2: Trekking to Agios Sostis, Ancient Gold Mines
Aghios Sostis Monastery

Pick up from the hotel and departure to Agios Minas settlement. We start walking from “Ag. Minas”, a small village on the road to Herronisos. The destination for this walk is Ag. Sostis, a monastery a few meters above the sea on the north-eastern coast of Sifnos, and the ancient gold mines (600-400 BC). On the way to there you'll trod on the beautiful marble footpath, which dates back to at least the time of mines as well as what is left of the mines themselves. Return to Agios Minas settlement by following the same path on the way back. Departure from Agios Minas settlement and return to the hotel. End of tour.

No 3: Trekking to Agios Ioannis Mavro Chorio & Vathi
On the way to Mavro Chorio

Pick up from the hotel and departure to Fyrogia monastery. The excursion starts from Fyrogia, a monastery often used for art exhibitions, located on the road to Vathi. From there, we will reach a hidden valley called “Skafi”. Continue to the ruined monastery of Taxiarchis Skafis. It is definitely worth a visit. A few more meters to walk, the view to the sea, toward Milos, Kimolos and Polyaigos islands will reward you for your efforts! Continue till the beautiful church of Panagia tou Niliou, with its amazing “Aegean balcony”. From here we start towards Mavro Chorio a settlement of scattered agricultural cottages and the monastery of Agios Ioannis, located on the west side of the island. We continue our walk towards the bay of Vathi. The name “Mavro Chorio” which means “Black Village”, originated, according to legend, from a fire in that area during old times. Departure from Vathy and return to the hotel. End of the tour.

No 4: Trekking to Fykiada beach
On the way from Platy Gialos to Fikiada.

Pick up from the hotel and departure to Platy Yialos. This walk sets off from Platy Yialos, heading in a southern direction to the small bay of Fikiada, keeping the sea to our left at all times. We admire the ancient olive trees, the ruins of an old farmhouse, the monastery of Ag. Georgios tou Kontou & the tiny beach. After a short break for rest and/or swim in the crystal waters of this often quiet beach, we set off again making our way up towards Vathi. Our walk ends at Vathi beach village. Departure from Vathy and return to the hotel. End of the tour.

No 5: Trekking to Poulati, Kastro, Faros
The pathway to Poulati

Pick up from the hotel and departure to Artemonas village. Our walk starts from the main square of Artemonas, heading down the road to Poulati, a beautifully "wild" location on the east coast of the island with the "killers rock" jutting out of the sea. We then continue walking to the tiny beach of Seralia, which in the old times was the harbor of Kastro. Our walk then takes us on the footpaths, alongside dry stone walls and farmhouses, to the fishing village of Faros. Departure from Faros village and return to the hotel. End of the tour.

No 6: Trekking from Poulati to Kastro
On the way from Poulati to Kastro.

Pick up from the hotel and departure to Artemonas village. Our walk starts from the main square of Artemonas, heading down the road to Poulati, a beautifully "wild" location on the east coast of the island with "killers rock" jutting out of the sea. We then continue walking to Kastro, the medieval capital of Sifnos and continue inside the village which is like an open museum. Departure from Kastro village and return to the hotel. End of the tour.

No 7: Trekking to Agios Andreas Ancient Acropolis, Fyrogia
Aghios Andreas arcaeological site.

Pick up from the hotel and departure to the ancient Acropolis of Agios Andreas. Our walk starts where the ancient steps to the Acropolis start (asphalt road to Vathi). We go up the hill, through the protected “NATURA 2000” area of the island, and visit the archaeological site and the small museum. The remains of the fortress city which dated back to the 13th century BC are really interesting and the view to almost all the island is at least breathtaking! We walk back through a footpath on the other side of the hill, to the monastery of Fyrogia. Departure from Fyrogia monastery and return to the hotel. End of the tour.
