Don't miss the Municipal Market of Chania, modeled on the market in Marseilles, France and one of the best in Greece. For those who are self-catering there is no better place to find cheese, olives, fruits, vegetables, meat and especially fish. For those looking for a pleasant restaurant where you can eat what the locals eat and know it is fresh and the highest quality then go to where the butchers and merchants of the market eat, at one of the many restaurants here. Be sure to try the patsa, especially if you have a hangover. There are cafes where you can drink coffee and listen to the sounds of the market and watch the people pass by, or you can buy traditional gifts to take home with you from one of the traditional Cretan goods shops.
